|Skylark Cottage is a deceptively spacious 3 bedroom self catering cottage situated on Thornton Farm, 5 miles from Berwick-upon-Tweed. With open outlooks and a wonderfully peaceful setting, it is the ideal base from which to explore North Northumberland. We have some beautiful walks around the Farm where you can see deer grazing and listen to uninterrupted birdsong. Guests remark on how amazing it is to see the stars so clearly at night.
Modernised throughout in 2009, Skylark Cottage is comfortably furnished. You can cosy up in front of the log burner, enjoy a DVD from the available collection on the 32” flat screen television or have a leisurely breakfast in the private garden to the rear of the cottage. Pets and children are very welcome.
|The reason we named the cottage “Skylark” was after the Skylark plots we create on the farm during Autumn seed drilling. The Skylark is an iconic farmland bird but has suffered dwindling numbers over the past 40 years. Insects are key to the plots and so we also sow wildflowers in our grass margins. These plots increase Skylark productivity and we get to enjoy the wildlife.
The Smales family have farmed at Thornton since 1948 and organic conversion began in April and July 2002, becoming fully organic in July 2004. We are very proud to be registered with Organic Farmers & Growers (UKFO 40517) as an organic arable farm.
